Discover the magic

At Bewyld, we believe that many of us are drawn to cold water immersion or therapy for different reasons. Whether you're an athlete, a keen exercise enthusiast, a biohacker, a wellness purist, or simply someone who wants to embrace the cold, switch off the mind, and enjoy the simple pleasure of just being, the benefits are almost endless—and somewhat magical. Here are just a few of the benefits we'd like to share.
whats your why?
muscle pain and stiffness
Cold water immersion has been shown to reduce muscle soreness and stiffness. When we enter the cold water, the 'shock' induces vasoconstriction. Blood vessels constrict, reducing blood flow to the skeletal muscles, which helps decrease muscle inflammation and damage, thus speeding up recovery. Once we naturally warm up again (we recommend 7-10 minutes before coming inside, and practising Wim Hoff's horse stance can help you get warm), vasodilation occurs—blood vessels open, aiding in the removal of lactic acid and other waste chemicals, which helps further reduce muscle soreness. However, if you're focused on strength training, we recommend waiting at least four hours post-workout before entering the cold water. Cold water immersion has been shown to accelerate recovery after strenuous activity, helping to reduce inflammation, muscle soreness, and fatigue more effectively.

Boosted immunity and anti ageing
Repeated cold water exposure increases a specific population of immune cells, potentially strengthening the immune system's ability to ward off infection and disease. Some studies have shown an increase in specific white blood cells, such as leukocytes and monocytes, within the blood plasma. These cells give our biology a greater advantage in today’s climate.
Chronic inflammation in the body is a key driver behind the aging of our cells. Cold exposure has been shown to decrease inflammation throughout the body and prevent cellular damage. Some studies suggest that cold water therapy is linked to an increase in certain anti-aging proteins while decreasing aging proteins
skin health

Cold water immersion has been shown to have positive effects on skin health and appearance.
As with other benefits, we see the same response in the blood vessels: they constrict when entering the cold water and then dilate as we warm up. This process allows more oxygen and nutrients to reach the skin, which can aid in tissue repair and reduce inflammation.
Cold water immersion has also been shown to reduce sebum production, which can help prevent acne and blocked pores. By reducing the size of the pores, it plays a role in reducing acne, pimples, blackheads, and can even provide relief from sunburn. Additionally, cold water immersion can boost collagen production, improving skin elasticity and firmness, giving the skin an overall healthier appearance.

Mental boost
The reason Bewyld was born. We saved the best (personally) for last. The effects of cold water immersion on the mind can only be described as euphoric by some of us at Bewyld. We’ll share what we’ve found to be the magic behind this incredible experience.
Whether it's an ice bath from us or anyone else, we hope you experience this amazing connection with the water.

As we enter the magical cold, our body's sympathetic nervous system switches into fight-or-flight mode, triggering the release of adrenaline and a reduction in cortisol levels. Repeated cold water immersion stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, leading to an overall calming effect.
Alongside this, there’s a surge of endorphins and other chemicals, such as dopamine, which brings a natural 'high' or a state of heightened elevation.
